Focus on Your Eye Comfort

Dry eye can impact your quality of life. Many patients dismiss symptoms as allergies, digital eye strain, or something that will pass with time. But putting up with burning, scratchy, tired, light-sensitive eyes can affect your eye health, mood, and vision.

At Pack Optical, we take the time to shed light on your symptoms and provide an in-depth understanding of your options. With a personalized strategy, we can help you discover solutions that work for your unique needs.

Dry eye is manageable, and you don’t have to suffer needlessly.

What Is Dry Eye?

The eye’s surface needs a constant layer of tears (the tear film) to provide nourishment and moisture. Dry eye is when the tear film lacks quality or quantity. Tears are mostly water, but the 3 layers (aqueous, oil, and mucus) work together to deliver nutrients, retain moisture longer, and help tears stick to the eye’s surface.

Symptoms of Dry Eye

Common symptoms of dry eye include:

  • Blurry vision
  • Redness
  • Burning or stinging
  • Gritty or scratchy feeling
  • Light sensitivity
  • Watery eyes

How Do We Customize Dry Eye Treatment?

At Pack Optical, we understand that every patient’s experience with dry eye is unique. That’s why customizing treatment based on your individual needs helps us make a meaningful difference. We listen, learn how your symptoms affect you, and perform a thorough evaluation to determine appropriate action for your specific needs.

Our goal is helping you achieve comfortable and clear vision, so you can get back to enjoying your daily activities without disruptions.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)

IPL therapy is a noninvasive treatment option that helps significantly relieve symptoms by restoring tear quality. Light is used to generate heat which penetrates the skin. The warmth helps melt natural oils in the meibomian glands (tears glands in the eyelids) and soothe inflammation. Reducing inflammation can improve oil flow and ocular rosacea, decreasing redness and discomfort.

Visit our OptiLight page to learn more about IPL.

Artificial tears can help support tear quality and add moisture. For example, Regener-Eyes can increase lubrication and hydration of the corneal surface. With various options available, we can recommend and prescribe eye drops based on your unique needs.

Lid expression is an in-office procedure that helps to unclog the meibomian glands (oil glands) by gently massaging the eyelids. The oil (meibum) released by the meibomian glands is essential for overall tear quality as it helps moisture last longer.

Clearing the meibomian glands of trapped oils can be particularly effective for patients suffering from eyelid inflammation caused by blepharitis or meibomian gland dysfunction.

Moist, warm compresses are a simple and effective way to help alleviate symptoms caused by poor tear quality. Warmth helps improve the flow of natural oils (produced by the meibomian glands in the eyelids). Combining the moist heat and a moment of closing your eyes can also soothe the sensations of burning, scratchy, tired eyes.

We recommend using a gentle, microwavable mask that can be heated and applied to the eyes for a few minutes daily.

This noninvasive technology has both medical and aesthetic applications for skin tightening and dry eye. It promotes collagen production from deep within your skin to assist with healing age spots, fine lines, and other superficial blemishes. The gentle heat energy from RF can also break up blockages in the meibomian glands to promote healthy tear production.

What Is Radiofrequency (RF)? Learn About RF Technology

Similar to IPL therapy, RF technology offers both medical and aesthetic benefits. This noninvasive skin tightening technology can help treat and combat your dry eye symptoms while stimulating collagen production.

At Pack Optical, we use RF therapy for:

  • Skin tightening solutions
  • Skin contouring
  • Reducing age spots
  • Smoothing fine lines
  • Melting thick oil secretions in the eyelids
  • Improving the quality of your tears
