What Is IPL Treatment?

Intense pulsed light, or IPL, is a non-invasive treatment that uses multiple wavelengths of light to target specific areas of the skin or eyes.

Unlike laser treatments that use a single wavelength of light, IPL can penetrate the second layer of the skin without damaging the top layer while addressing a variety of aesthetic and eye comfort concerns. At Pack Optical, we are proud to use the OptimasMAX from InMode for our IPL treatments.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) for Dry Eyes

Dry eyes can be more than just an inconvenience; they can significantly affect your quality of life.

When traditional remedies like artificial tears and medications don’t provide sufficient relief, IPL therapy can be an effective alternative for:

  • Meibomian gland dysfunction
  • Blepharitis
  • Ocular rosacea

IPL Photofacial: The Aesthetic Benefits

IPL is also a powerful tool for aesthetics! An IPL photofacial can address various aesthetic concerns, helping your complexion look youthful and rejuvenated.

This treatment uses various wavelengths of light to penetrate the second layer of skin, stimulating collagen production and targeting skin issues such as:

  • Age spots & sun damage
  • Rosacea
  • Acne

The IPL Process

While we tailor each treatment to meet your specific needs, there are common steps we follow to help you achieve optimal results.

By following these steps, we can provide both safe and effective IPL treatment, whether you’re looking to enhance your appearance or find relief from dry eyes.

Preparation

We start by thoroughly cleaning the area of the skin to be treated.

A cooling gel is applied to the skin, which helps enhance the effectiveness of the treatment and provides comfort. We’ll also provide protective glasses or shields over your eyes for safety during the procedure.

We then use the IPL on the target area. You may feel a slight pinch, but it should not be painful.

For aesthetic purposes, the session typically lasts around 30 minutes, and for dry eye treatments, it generally lasts about 15 minutes.

For desired results, aesthetic patients might need 3–6 sessions, while dry eye patients may only need 3 sessions.

After the treatment, your skin may feel red and sensitive, similar to a sunburn. Slight bruising, swelling, redness, or irritation is normal and should subside within 2–3 days.

We recommend using sunscreen and avoiding sun exposure for two weeks after treatment to protect your skin.
